How much downtime do I need after eyelid surgery?
For eyelid surgery, usually the downtime is 7 to 10 days. If it’s only the upper eyelid, the recovery is a little bit faster. Patients at a week are looking very good and can start wearing makeup over it to disguise any bruising or swelling. The lower eyelids sometimes can take a little bit longer to heal. It depends on how much tissue we had before to remove or to work with and also if we needed to do fat grafting around the eyes, which is a common thing associated with eyelid surgery, and that can take about two weeks. It depends on how much bruising and swelling the patient has. So, an average, is one week for the upper eye, two weeks if we have the lower eyelid or a combination of upper and lower eyelids.
